Document Signed by William, second Viscount Brouncker, Sir John Mennes and Colonel Thomas Middleton, 1 page 4to (oblong), Navy Office, 13 February 1667/8. Ordering the payment for naval stores at Deptford.
'... These are to Certifie that there is due unto Mr Francis Ponytz the sume of Two hundred thirty and five poundes seaventeen shillings one penny ob. for Bridwell Canvas delivered unto his Majties Stores at deptford the 15th of June 1666 bought of him upon the Creditt of the late Act of Parliament for 1250000ls[sic] and to be paid out of the monies ariseing upon the s[ai]d Act ...'
Signed by three officers well known to Pepys. The diarist's relations with Brouncker fluctuated, but were basically good. They had common interests in music and science and came to respect each other despite their occasional professional differences. Brouncker was the first President of the Royal Society.
