PATCH, Blanche Secretary and biographer of George Bernard Shaw.
Typewritten Letter Signed to Downs, 2 pages 8vo (oblong), 4 Whitehall Court, 6 January 1936. Questioning her ability to give a 'message' to newly-qualified secretaries, but giving one nonetheless.
'... I should like to tell the newly fledged secretaries not to be discouraged if they have not passed out first class, as their success at work will probably depend on their adaptability and power to deal with the unexpected crises that occur in the best regulated private, or business houses ... I, personally have never had any speed at writing shorthand, and have never found it a handicap; but Mr Shaw has the peculiar system of writing everything in shorthand, and all I have to do is to transcribe it.'
