PEACOCK, Edward (1831-1915). Antiquarian & novelist.
Autograph Letter Signed to Dr Needham, 4 pages 8vo, Bottesford Manor, Brigg, 10 July 1871. Railing against the evils of drink.
'... It is, I apprehend, no exaggeration to say that far more than half of the crime in the world arises from drunkeness. I am not a "tea-totaller" in theory but very nearly so in practise. I fear that some of the total abstainers injure the cause of temperance by their foolish advocacy of things that are impossible to carry out. ...'
