Series of 2 Autograph Letters Signed, 4 Typewritten Letters Signed, and 2 Autograph Postcards Signed to Otto or Mrs Fürstner, 7 pages 4to and 8vo, (filing-holes), various places, 1936-1962. Confirming receipt of director's fees, correcting the mintues, asking about tax, and giving family news. With some newspaper cuttings.
Read was a director of Routledge & Kegan Paul and received an annual fee. In the Read household economy, the fee was used for special treats (a holiday in France) or other large one-off expenses.
'A fine baby duaghter was born on Saturday ... You came to the rescue last time - is there any possibility of doing the same this time? If you could pay the director's fee due to me, it would be very welcome. I have not yet had any satisfaction from Mrs Guggenheim, and for the moment I am stranded ... .'
