Two Autograph Letters Signed to Lord and Lady Monkswell, in all 2½ pages 8vo, 38 Onslow Gardens, 18 March 1891 and 9 March 1894. Asking Lord Monkswell to consider the opinion of H.C. Lea of Philadelphia in connection with copyright and assuring Lady Monkswell that he will support her husband in his election to the Athenaeum.
'... Mr Lea (who was a great publisher & is a very distinguished historian) himself drew up the bill, though he is not responsible for its amendments. I am not competent to form an opinion on the points which he raises, but it would b very kind if you or Ld Herschell wd look into the matter. ...'
Three consecutive Lords Monkswell were elected to the Athenaeum, in 1871,1894 and 1912.
