ROSCOE, William (1753-1831) Historian and patron of the arts.
Autograph Letter Signed to an unnamed correspondent (apparently a fellow collector), 2 pages 4to, no place, no date. Returning [Antonio] Canova's letter ('of which I made a translation') and discussing Reveley's notices ('rather too short & not sufficiently discriminative of the different merits of the masters').
'... With respect to your valuable picture presented to the Liverpool Artists, I can only say that I have had no concern with them for a long time past. ... I shall however have great pleasure in making enquiry what is become of the picture ... .'
Provenance: from a collection formed by A.M. Broadley in 1903.
