BURGHLEY, William Cecil, Lord (1520/21-1598). Lord Treasurer. Autograph minute signed on an address-leaf addressed to him, originally attched to a petition from 'Mr Hylliard her Ma[jesty]s Servaunte', 20 May 1596. The minute relates to a proposed hearing in a legal case, and reads 'Mr Fanshaw to appoynt a day of hearing, some tyme in the next terme / W Burghley'. 'That it would please yor L[ordshi]p to appointe a daye of hearinge sometyme the next terme in ye cause depending in ye Excheq[ue]r chamber, betwixt one Wilcocks, and hym and the poor Tenants of her Ma[jesty]s mannor of [indecipherable].'One further endorsement, two panels a little soiled, small hole caused by opening the seal, but a good example of Burghley's italic hand and his signature.
