SMUTS, Jan Christiaan (1870-1950). South African soldier and statesman.
Autograph Letter Signed to W.H. Anstey, 2 pages small 8vo with envelope, Savoy Hotel, London, 8 October 1934. Promising to help Anstey with a problem over his pension.

'... It is most regrettable that Parliament has refused your petition. If you will tell me the exact facts I can go into them with the Treasury at Pretoria. Please send me material which I can submit to them and back up as far as I can. ...'

Later in October Smuts went to Scotland and at the end of his term as as Rector of St Andrews University (1931-1934) to hand over the position to his successor, Guglielmo Marconi.
