GREENAWAY, Kate (1846-1901). Artist & creator of childrens' books. Three pencil studies of the right hand of a child, holding a stick. On an 8vo sheet taken from a sketchbook (drawing-pin marks on the corners), undated. Kate Greenaway always had trouble drawing hands and feet. She spent years under the tutelage of John Ruskin, who attempted to instruct her in the proper technique. This example may well have been an exercise she did for his criticism. [No: 1991] The image is of one sheet only (of two).
