JAMES I (1566-1625). King of England. Letter Signed as James VI of Scotland addressed to Lord Gray, 1 page folio with address on the reverse and traces of red wax seal, 21 November 1590. With a fine engraved portrait. Ordering a payment of 500 marks to John Stewart ('that w[i]thout farder protracting of tyme or difficultie you mak thankfull pament to the said Johnne of the soresaid sowme'). In a Scottish secretary hand, the page inlaid with some loss to the blank area of the left margin and a few tears. The signature particularly bold.
