BOSCAWEN, Edward ('Old Dreadnought') (1711-1761). Admiral.
Document Signed, 1 page folio on vellum (a little soiled and with a nibble from the foot, but in good condition), papered seal, 2 August 1758. A partially printed document signed as 'Admiral of the Blue and Commander in Chief of His Majesty's Ships employed and to be employed in North America', appointing Richard Bickerton to the command of HM Fireship Ætna.
The English force under General Wolfe had captured Louisburg on 26 July 1758 after a siege lasting fifty days. Boscawen's naval force had been sent to provide cover, but the operations were entirely military.
