MONMOUTH, James Scott, Duke of (1649-1685). Natural son of Charles II. Led rebellion of 1685; executed. Document Signed ('Monmouth'), as Chief Justice of Forests South of the Trent, 1 page large folio with papered armorial seal, 31 March 1674. Addressed to the officers of the forest of Windsor, giving them authority to chop down a coppice in the parish of Bray at the request of the Fishmongers Company. Old repairs to the verso and one panel of the conjoint leaf lacking, not affecting the text. The text in an attractive and slightly unusual secretarial hand. [No: 21468]
