Puccini hopes BohŠme will succeed like Tosca in Paris

PUCCINI, Giacomo (1858-1924). Italian composer.
Autograph Letter Signed to his publisher, Giulio Ricordi, in Milan, 4 pages 8vo with envelope (small splits professionally repaired), Holy Saturday [11 April] 1903. About the forthcoming Paris production of Tosca, expressing the hope that it will go as well as La Bohème, and that he will be well enough to attend. [With a translation].
'I am writing to you lying down, and am in such pain, I am almost resigned to remaining on my back.
I hope that in ten or twelve days' time, I will get a change of apparatus, that will enable me to go to Paris, probably with the crutches, and consult with Luigi if he will help me ...
If Tosca goes like Bohème in production, and is ready towards the first of June, I would hope to be able to go with all possible haste - what do you think of that? The hope of doing so makes lying in bed a bit less hard. ...'
Puccini continues by asking whether Ricordi has seen the newpapers from Pisa and read the reviews, and enquires about [Ricordi's son] Tito in Paris.
