STEVENSON, Robert Louis (1850-1894). Author. Attractive Autograph Letter Signed to an unnamed correspondent, 1 page 8vo (laid down on the remains of a mount), Skerryvore, Bournemouth, 23 March 1886. Declining an invitation to lecture on the grounds of ill health. '... as one of my symptoms is a strong tendency to hemorrhage of the lungs, and I am often condemmed to absolute silence for long times together and must communicate with the world entirely by writing, you will see that it would be dangerous for me to try lecturing....'Soon after this letter was written, Stevenson's doctor advised him to leave the country for the sake of his health. Though he had planned to go to Colorado, the family travelled only as far as the Adirondacks. [No: 21838]
