ORMEROD, George (1785-1873). Historian of the county of Cheshire.
Group of five Autograph Letters Signed to various correspondents, 8 pages 4to, mostly with address-leaves, Chorlton [House] (1, 1814) & Barnesville / Sedbury Park (4, 1826).
To Mr Ford, bookseller of Manchester, asking whether he has been able to acquire the missing pages for a copy of Whitacker's Whalley [Chorlton, 7 July 1814].
To an unnamed correspondent denying any real knowledge of the 'Bright City', and adding that 'I observe from the Gents Mag that the concluding part of your architectural Antiqs is shortly to see the light. If any parcel for me is left my Tailors, Messrs Kerry & Forrest, Bury St, St James directed to be forwarded when convenient it will duly reach me'. [Barnesville Park, 23 July 1826].
Three letters to Messrs John Robins, of Warwick House, Regent Street, demanding a final settlement of his account, complaining that they have made mistakes, and discussing details ('Mr Newns is however in an error respecting my Servants & Dogs. I can positively state on oath that I had never more male servants in my employ (Except as follows) than three during the year 1825 ... They were one butler, one footman & one Coachman.') [August and September 1826].
