LISZT, Franz (1811-1886). Hungarian composer and pianist.
Autograph Letter Signed in German [to Professor Ernest Rietschel], 3 pages 8vo (a little faded and with some professional strengthening), Weimar, 6 July 1858. A good letter to the distinguished German architect and sculptor on the subject of his monument to Goethe and Schiller, which was unveiled in front of the National Theatre in Weimar in 1857. With transcript and translation.

'... I hope in the course of next winter to be able to comply with the wish that arose in me when I first set eyes on your masterpiece [to compose a comparable musical work], and I must apologise to you that our constrained musical circumstances have not permitted me to do so already.
'... All the kindest wishes from the Princess, and from Princess Marie ...'
