Autograph Letter Signed in German to [Mary] Carmichael, 2 pages 8vo (split in the fold professionally repaired) with envelope, London, 18 February 1874. Praising her composition 'Valentine', a mazurka and, in 17 bars of music, making suggestions for its improvement. '... Your talent promises a great deal, and I am convinced that it will keep that promise; afer all, you have received from nature something that cannot be taught ... .'Hans von Bülow was a pupil of Liszt, who's daughter Cosima became his wife. After their divorce Cosima was to marry Richard Wagner. Mary Carmichael was a prolific composer of art songs as well as an accompanist. With a full transcription and translation.
