RICHARDSON, Sir John (1787-1865). Arctic explorer & naturalist. Autograph Letter Signed to a bank ('Gentlemen'), 2 pages 8vo with second leaf bearing endorsements, Lancrigg, Grasmere, 21 November 1855. With two related letters. Asking his bank to pay a £2 subscription 'for a memorial to Ad[mira]l Sir Francis Beaufort'. '... Captain Beecher is I think the Secretary to the fund but should he not be I suppose that you will find some one at the Hydrographer's office authorised to receive subscriptions. ...'The related letters are a good letter from Thomas Stilwell promising to send a letter of Richardson as an example of his autograph, but giving a lengthy account of Richardson's execution of Michel ('the Iroquis Guide') during Sir John's Franklin's overland expedition of 1821, and a secretarial letter (third person) from Lady (Jane) Franklin, 1874, cancelling her order for a copy of 'one of Sir John Franklin's narratives' ('she has just most unexpectedly become possessed of one from a private source, already bound'). With a small photograph of John Rae. [No: 22462] The image is of the second page only.
