MACQUARIE, Lachlan (1762-1824). Major-general & governor of New South Wales. Autograph Letter (third person) to Dr Arnold, 1 page 8vo (oblong), H.M.S. Dromedary, 29 August 1908. A note to accompany 'the greater part of the Medicines required by Dr Arnold'. Colonel Macquarie and his wife sailed on the Dromedary to Australia, where he was to take up his post of governer. He was to serve in this post until 1821, and became a staunch advocate of improving the lot of the convict population. [No: 22711]
