METTERNICH, Prince Klemenz Wenzel von (1773-1859). Austrain Statesman.
Letter Signed in French ('Le Prince de Metternich Winneburg') to the Marquis of Wellesley, foreign secretary, 1 page folio with blank leaf, Vienna, 26 May 1810. A letter of introduction for the Count Nugent, an Irishman by birth, who was being sent by the Empress on a legation to England.
Lavall, Count Nugent (1777-1862), rose to the rank of field marshal in the Austrian army and was made a prince of the empire. His long and honourable military career began in 1793 and sixty-six years later he was present at the battle of Solferino . His most distinguished services to Austria were during the war with France in 1813 and 1814.
