PUCCINI, Giacomo (1858-1924). Italian opera-composer.
Autograph Letter Signed (initials) on both sides of a correspondence-card, with envelope, to Carlo Clausetti, Torre del Lago, 7 November 1913.
He encloses (not present) a notice which says how D'Annunzio is no man of the theatre. About Berlin, he needs to know exactly when the final rehearsals will be, for he wishes to go hunting in the Maremma. F. Martini has sent him another lyric essay, but Puccini finds that the Parisian character is missing completely - 'and I still have the play in French! Now I have springs in my hands. I expect Adami here...' [probably referring to Il Tabarro].
Clausetti had been director of the Naples branch of Ricordi, with the responsibility not only for distributing Ricordi publications in southern Italy but for the promotion of the works of all composers published by the firm. In this position he encountered Puccini in 1894 and at once formed a special relationship with him - perhaps the closest and most important musical association of PucciniÆs life. After Giulio RicordiÆs death in 1912, Clausetti moved to Milan; and, on Tito RicordiÆs withdrawing from the firm in 1919, he assumed its joint directorship with Renzo Valcarenghi.
