Autograph Letter Signed signed on his own behalf and that of Joseph Pennell, to H[enry] C[urrie] Marillier, 2 pages 8vo, 144 Cromwell Road, 5 April 1898. Asking Marillier to contribute to a fund for Aubrey Beardsley's mother.
'The long illness of Mr. Aubrey Beardsley, followed by his death, has left his mother in the most pressing pecuniary distress. Mrs. Beardsley is, moreover, seriously prostrated in health. A few friends are endeavouring to get together a fund for the relief of this lady's immediate necessities. ...'
Harland had founded the Yellow Book with Beardsley. Marillier (1865-1951, journalist, expert on tapestries, and scientific correspondent) was a friend, correspondent and possibly a lover of Oscar Wilde.
