PAGE, Thomas (1803-1877). Civil engineer; early proposer of a Channel tunnel.
Autograph Letter Signed to Mrs Enys, 2 pages 16mo (facing), 35 Royal Terrace, Adelphi, 27 March 1871. Sending sympathy for the state of Mr Enys's health, requesting his photograph and promising to send one of himself in return.
Page had commenced his carreer as assistant to Isambard Kingdom Brunel on the Thames Tunnel in 1835, and progressed to acting engineer the following year. He was heavily involved with proposals for the Thames embankment and several bridges. He designed the Westminster Bridge which was opened in 1862.
