EDGEWORTH, Maria (1768-1849). Novelist and educationist.
Autograph Letter Signed to Mr Hunter, 3 pages 8vo (some traces of mounting on the reverse), 1 North Audley Street, 9 February 1841. Asking him to run off twenty-five further copies of her father's portrait from his memoirs for one of Lord Longford's daughters, and sending news received from Edgeworth's Town.
'... Mrs M Sneyd has been taken very ill lately and Honora (Mrs. Beaufort[)] has gone over to her and is now at Edgeworthtown. Mrs. Sneyd is better and some faint hopes of her recovery are entertained. At her advanced age - in her 91st year - these hopes must be uncertain and the fear must be great of protracted sufferings. Her sufferings however appear to be only from weakness of body; all her faculties understanding and warm affections remain still ...'
Provenance: from a collection formed by A.M. Broadley in 1903.
