ARNOLD, Matthew (1822-1888). Poet and critic.
Autograph Letter Signed to [Edward] Burne-Jones, 1 page 8vo, The Athenaeum (blind stamp), 7 October 1884. Regretting that they never meet, and asking for an address.
'... I cannot bring myself to write Mr. Can you tell me, by a line to Cobham, Surrey, the address of Sally Norton? We want to catch her for a day or two before she goes back to America.'
Matthew Arnold had been elected to the Athenaeum, from where he wrote many of his letters, as long ago as 1856. Burne-Jones followed him in 1879.
