GRACE, Princesse de Monaco (1929-1982). Formerly Grace Kelly.
Autograph Sentiment Signed, written on two separate slips, each 76 x 127 mm. (3 x 5 inches), no date with envelope (unwritted) bearing the princess's crest.
A quotation from Emerson [Self-Reliance, his first series of essays]:
'It is easy in the world to live after the world's opinion. It is easy in solitude to live after one's own. But the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd can keep with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude.'
The quotation was written for the graphologist Jeanne Heal and is reproduced in the introduction to her book 'You and Your Handwriting' (1973). Also included here is a letter from Princess Grace's private secretary to the publisher of the work, thanking him on the princess's behalf for a specially bound copy.
