LOWRY, Laurence Stephen (1887-1976). Painter.
Autograph Letter Signed to G.H. Holland, 1 page 8vo with envelope, 72 Chorley Road, Swinton, Manchester, 6 November 1947. Returning the form for the Manchester Academy, duly signed by himself and by another member, Mrs Bradley.
The letter refers to the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, whose members included artists in the region. Lowry was elected a member in 1935 and exhibited with the Academy for over forty years as well as taking classes.
Lowry's co-signer, Mrs Bradley, was probably the naive painter and writer Helen Bradley whose work was influenced by and praised by him.
'... Very glad to hear you are very busy and that all is well with you.'
