KITCHENER, Horatio Herbert (1850-1916). Army officer.
Autograph Letter Signed ('Kitchener') to Lady Talbot, 2 pages 8vo with integral blank leaf, Whitehall Court, 20 July no year [?1911]. Thanking her for congratulations, hoping to meet her at Waddesdon, and sending his regards to 'the General'.
'... Of course I am going to Waddesdon on the 27th as otherwise Broome might suffer a loss, and Egyptian offairs must wait. I am not going out until the end of September. ...'
The reference to Broome [Kitchener's home at Broome Park, near Canterbury] and his forthcoming travel to Egypt, suggest a date of 1911. He arrived in Egypt on 29 September that year, having been appointed British agent and consul-general after the death of Eldon Gorst.
