HERBERT, John Rogers (1810-1890). Portrait and historical painter.
Autograph Letter Signed to W. Stanfield (?or Sternfield), 3 pages 8vo, The Chimes, West End Lane, Kilburn, 9 August 1885. Making elaborate arrangements for placing his pictures in an exhibition, including in the text three sketches of frames, giving measurements, and refering to several pictures as numbered in the R.A. catalogue.

The pictures in question, for which he gives the outside measurements of the frames ('thinking it would help your arranging the gallery'), are 'Message of a flower', 'First coming of the sword of Solomon into Spain', and 'The Sheepfold'. He also makes a correction to the RA catalogue ('quotation for 438 - three lines from bottom - should be azure eyes').
