METEYARD, Eliza (1816-1879). Author of the Life of Josiah Wedgwood, and novelist. Two Autograph Letters Signed to Mrs Phipson, in all 3 pages 8vo, Hampstead and no place, 7 November 1873 and 6 August 1875. Acknowledging, somewhat sanctimoniously, a contribution of £10 for the women's cause, and making arrangements to meet. '... I am poor because my income is very small & because my work - which I love & cannot, come what may, help taking pains with - pays me so ill. But it is better perhaps that so many solitary & struggling women, like myself, should so shape our duties that their effect may survive our narrow day, than prosper overmuch, & so miss the divine-like culture & submission which comes out of trial & suffering ... .'
