SYNGE, (Edmund) John Millington (1871-1909). Irish playwright.
Autograph Letter Signed on a postcard (one side) to A Francis Stewart (or Steuart) in Edinburgh, Glendalough House, Kingstown, Dublin, 21 November [postmark 1907]. Explaining that he was too busy to travel to Edinburgh, but that 'W.G. Fay will be delighted to meet you again.

Synge's Play In the Shadow of the Glen (1903) was to be produced in Edinburgh at the Royal Lyceum Theatre between 10 and 14 December 1907, with the actor and producer William George Fay (1872-1947) and his brother Frank both in the cast. His best-known play The Playboy of the Western World had received its first performance in January of this year, 1907. Rioting in the theatre was to continue throughout the run.
 Synge and his mother had moved to Glendalogh House, close to their previous home in Crosthwaite Park East, in July 1906.
