SIBELIUS, Jean (1865-1957). Finnish composer.
Signature in pencil ('Jean Sibelius') on the first page of the programme for a Henry Wood Promenande Concert on 2 September 1948. Fine condition. The soloist in Sibelius's Violin Concerto was Henry Holst, and the other works in the first half of the programme were Tapiola and the fifth symphony. The second half comprised music by Moeran and Bax.

The Danish violinist Henry Holst (1899-1991) had been the leader of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra before settling in England.
