SHAW, George Bernard (1856-1950). Playwright.
Typewritten Letter Signed to Ernest F.W. Hieatt of the St Albans Rural District council, 1 page 4to (oblong, punched holes in the margin), Adelphi Terrace, 7 February 1922. Headed in red 'Parish of Sandridge Refuse Dump', complaining of the noxious smells let off by the burning of household refuse and offering a solution.

'... If it is set on fire, the smell is unbearable: if it is left to decay, it still smells and breeds rats and flies. The county has gained two garden cities ... by its amenities. Nobody will build a garden city within sight of smell of this dump. ...'
