BENNETT, (Enoch) Arnold (1867-1931). Novelist and playwright.
Autograph Letter Signed to Lord Knutsford, 1 page 4to, 75 Cadogan Square, 7 January 1930. Denying that he knew anything about Knutsford's 'begging department' and declaring that Miss Raste (from his novel Riceyman Steps had arisen from his own imagination.

'... I have no memory for names & very little for faces. I met once a man in St James's Street, & he stopped, & I said 'I seem to remember your face'. He said: 'You dined at my house two nights ago.'

Knutsford was chairman of the board of the London Hospital, where he was widely admired for his ability to raise substantial funds.
