SCHARF, Sir George (1820-1895). Artist and director of the National Portrait Gallery. Autograph Letter Signed with original sketches to Mrs Ward, 2½ pages 8vo, 8 Ashley Place, 8 December 1871. Thanking her for remembering his love for 'the sleekest of all animals' and depicting himself with a cat in 1838 and by contrast in 1871. Scharf also comments on the dangerous illness of the Prince of Wales; the future Edward VII had caught typhoid in October and was in a critical condition at this time.
