SCOTT-GATTY, Sir Alfred Scott (1847-1918). Officer of the College of Arms & composer. Autograph Letter Signed ('A.S. Scott-Gatty / Garter') to Saxe Wyndham, 3 pages 8vo, Wendover Lodge, Welwyn, Hertfordshire, 2 May 1918. Excusing his tardiness in replying brought about by his memory 'which has taken to behaving like a sieve' and promising to rectify the situation the following Monday. '... Pray convey to your sister my most sincere apologies and excuses - tell her that on the 25th of April I reached the age of 71! - tell her that when I go to the College [of arms] I am at once seized upon by my fellow officers to answer most difficult (to me) questions, and like a bookworm I have to spend my time and damage my eyesight by looking up precedents!. ...'
