SLOPER, Edward Hugh Lindsay (1826-1887). Pianist, music teacher & composer.
Autograph Letter Signed [to Ignaz Moscheles, 1794-1870, pianist & composer], 3 pages 8vo on black-edged paper, 9 Bentinck Street, Manchester Square, 10 March 1846. Declaring that he had nothing to do with the erroneous report in that morning's Post citing him as the successor to Moscheles, who is to go to Leipzig.

'... I need hardly tell you that having no idea how this unwarrantable assertion has found its way into the paper, I was as much grieved as astonished on perusing it.
Grateful as I am to you for having thought of me for one moment in connection with yr departure, I have most studiously avoided circulating a rumour which, however honorable to me, has no positive foundation - an indelicacy of which I trust you believe me incapable. ...'
