ROGERS, Samuel (1763-1855). Poet. Autograph Letter Signed to the poet Alaric Watts (1797-1864), 1 page 4to, laid down (with the address-panel), St James's Place 12 September no year. Though flattered and wishing to comply with Watts's request, he has nothing at present unpublished, but promises that should he should subsequently have something he will 'communicate it through our Friend, Mr Wiffen'. Watts was connected to over twenty conservative periodicals in his time, but the request for a work from Rogers was more probably for inclusion in one of his two annuals, the Literary Souvenir and The Cabinet of Modern Art. These annuals were immenseley popular, particularly as gifts at Christmas time. Jeremiah Holmes Wiffen (1792-1836, poet and translator) was married to Watts's sister Priscilla.
