Autograph Letter Signed in French [to Mrs Harriet Grote, wife of the historian George Grote], 3 pages 16mo, [London], docketed by the recipient F.Liszt / May 1841. Begging her forgiveness for failing to call on her, blaming it on his cab driver who drove to the wrong district, forcing Liszt to return to Marlborough Street in order to ascertain the correct address and thus arrive too late.
'... C'est mon infâme Cab, qui s'etant trompé de quartier m'a forcé de revenir Marlborough Street pour reprendre exactement votre addresse ... '
Harriet Grote was a cultivated and charming woman whose salon, at this time in Eccleston Square, was visited by luminaries from both England and abroad.
