PAGET, Sir James, 1st Baronet (1814-1899). Surgeon.
Four Autograph Letters Signed to Walter R[aleigh] Browne, in all 6 pages 8vo, 1 Harewood Place, Hanover Square, 21 February 1881 to 9 December 1882. Discussing a paper he had published which was 'in accordance with the opinion generally expressed when I had the pleasure of meeting you at Lambeth Palace, but declining to condone widespread dissemination of it or to write more.
Walter Raleigh Browne (1842-1884) was a civil engineer and founder of the Society for Psychical Research. He often lectured on evidences of Christianity and organized a private conference with the Archbishop of Canterbury with the aim of encouraging men of science to reaffirm their religious beliefs and to publish a series of articles in the Contemporary Review on the state of the various sciences.

 'I thank you for sending em Professor Asa Gray's note. There are few men whose approval I should more prize. If I had chanced to read his address before I promised to give one I should not have printed mine. ...'
